Palm Island is a private island located off the coast of Englewood. Despite the fact it is considered a private island, there is still a public restaurant with beach access. The only way to get to Palm Island is by boat or car ferry, and the north end of the island (where the beach is located) is accessible only by golf cart. If you don't have a boat of your own, your journey will begin at the famous Johnny Leverock's Seafood House (Google map).

Here you will catch a ride on Hersh's Water Taxi. The cost is five dollars and it runs from noon to 6:00p.m. seven days a week, every thirty minutes. The cost covers you round trip with gratuities accepted, and will last about fifteen minutes in either direction. For those of you water-weary have no fear, Lemon Bay is always glassy smooth. For more information check out the Hersh's Water Taxi site, which also provides scenic tours of lemon bay and the islands.

Once on the island you can enjoy an excellent array of food and drinks at Rum Bay Restaurant before heading off to the beach. Palm Island has some of the most beautiful water of any of the Gulf Beaches of Englewood and the sand is flour-soft. Regularly occuring tide pools will normally run ten degrees warmer and are perfect for younger bathers. Having been to Palm Island many times I can say that you are all but guaranteed seclusion. You will also regularly find unoccupied lounge chairs ready for relaxing. If you are ready for the real Florida experience, Palm Island will not disappoint.
